Lightbulb Ladies & Gent's Nights - coming soon!

As a change of pace to our regular programming, TBA has decided to do some specific shoujo & shonen targeted nights. However, we have also decided not to exclude members by their gender. Both genders are invited to watch the anime shown on the shoujo/shonen nights.

The dates have currently not been decided for these mini-events. They will be on regular TBA meeting nights.

HOWEVER! If you decide that something in the respective lineup is something that will offend you or cause you to be belligerent and ruin the other member's time at TBA, we ask you to just skip that night and do something else. TBA is about showing all kinds of anime to people and broadening their horizons. If the thought of something like Antique Bakery (with outwardly gay characters) or Tenjo Tenge (copious fan service and bouncy breasts) will cause you to be uncomfortable or disruptive PLEASE SKIP THAT MEETING. Sharp and I do not want to ask anyone to leave, but we want as many people as possible to enjoy the meeting.

As usual, sexist, racist, and homophobic comments will not be tolerated and you will be asked to pay your bill and leave. If you're rude to us, we'll be rude to you. Them's the breaks.

Also remember your portable gaming systems love you and if you just want to tune out, it's always "DS Time" (or PSP if that's your jam). Quietly ignoring something you don't like is always fine.

Okay, now that I can remove my "I Am Boss" hat, here are some examples of anime that would fit into these theme nights.

For example a "Ladies Night" lineup would look something like this
(these are not the final lineup, don't panic)

Paradise Kiss
Vampire Knight Guilty
Antique Bakery
Peach Girl
perhaps even a live action show such as Kimi wa Pet
http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Kimi_wa_Pet
(which was amazing btw)

A Gentleman's Night would look something like this
Tenjo Tenge
Hajime No Ippo
GaoGaiGar Final Grand Glorious Gathering (best anime name EVER)
Witchblade
maybe Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden
live action possibility - Cutie Honey the Live

We are taking suggestions (as always) for stuff you may want to see on those nights. Fanservice shows are OK, no hentai please.

Comment and suggest away

I think it's a great idea, but do you think we might be able to run them concurrently? Say, we have the ladies' night at our usual location, and have guys' night at another restaurant, like at another Perkins, Beef O'Brady's or any other restaurant with a private room we can set up? I can have all the equipment needed to run a meeting pretty easily, and that way fewer people get left out on a meeting night. Think about it.

My suggestions to throw in the pot for guys' night:

Witchblade
Gantz
Shakugan no Shana (movie?)
Ghost in the Shell S.A.C.
Ergo Proxy

I'm glad that you decided not to exclude members by their gender. This way it's more fair. Now it's a theme night instead of a gender night. It feels more club friendly

Having two meetings simultaneously would defeat the purpose of changing the rules to allow people of either gender to attend. If anybody wants to watch a more gender-specific lineup, they shouldn't have to choose between them.

On a different topic, now that Kyoko-sensei has put it politely, I'll put it succinctly. If you come to a Ladies Night or Guys Night, and you misbehave, you will be kicked out. If you don't like it, don't come, it's that simple. We'll post the lineup ahead of time, and we're not forcing anybody to come. And, for the record, "misbehaving" is defined by Kyoko-sensei and myself, no appeals.

This statement really irks me.

I don't think it's fair to treat a group of mature adults like children; though under further consideration, "mature" may not be a ubiquitous term for our group.

The reason we had to make that so clear was that in the past, we've had some disruptions, which led to OTHER disruptions (you know how it all goes downhill after one bad joke) when people watched anime that made them uncomfortable. (I assume). It was said as such because we want everyone to enjoy themselves and things like Princess Princess, for example would cause outbursts at a regular meeting. (although I wish it didn't)

But yes, as you said, while we are all adults, maturity doesn't always win out.

I'm sorry my language irks you, but I stand by it. I'd also point out that being an adult does not make you mature. What I think is fair is treating people in a manner matching how they present themselves. In other words, people who act like children get treated like children. People who act mature get treated maturely.

All this is really only relevant to the special meetings discussed in this thread, though. There are going to be stricter rules in force for these special meetings, because we want the people who enjoy the more gender-targeted anime to be able to enjoy it. Those kinds of anime are also the kinds that provoke the most extreme comment and behavior from those who do not like it, so we're nipping it in the bud.

This is also why were giving plenty of advance notice. If anybody can't watch girly or manly anime without making fun of it or the people that watch it, they can choose to stay at home for these meetings, and they'll be welcomed back when normal scheduling returns.
